Understanding the Program
What Is Detox?
Alcohol detoxing will come with some withdrawal symptoms.
Patients will experience shaking hands, insomnia, and anxiety within 48 hours.
Symptoms will get worse within the next 3 days. Withdrawal symptoms such as seizures and hallucinations are perfectly normal.
After a week, the symptoms reduce and can be treated with therapy.

Safe withdrawal management is the first step — we coordinate detox before outpatient PHP, IOP, or OP care.

Timeline
How long does detox take, day by day?
Medically supervised detox length varies by substance, dose, medical history, and complications — often several days rather than a single overnight. Alcohol, benzodiazepines, and opioids each carry different withdrawal risk profiles that clinicians monitor closely.
These day markers are educational averages, not a promise of your length of stay. A clinician sets monitoring intensity and discharge timing based on medical necessity.
| Phase | What often happens | What families should know |
|---|---|---|
| Day 0 — intake | Assessment, vitals, history, safety planning | Bring medication list, insurance card, and last-use details |
| Days 1–2 | Peak monitoring for many substances; symptom management | Sleep, hydration, and medical observation are priorities |
| Days 3–5+ | Stabilization continues; discharge readiness evaluated | Plan the next level of care before leaving detox |
| After detox | Transition to PHP, IOP, residential, or OP as appropriate | Detox alone is rarely complete treatment |

Medications
What medications may be used during detox?
Detox may include medications that ease withdrawal symptoms, protect safety (for example, seizure risk in alcohol withdrawal), and stabilize sleep or anxiety when clinically indicated. Exact protocols are individualized — this page does not prescribe a specific regimen.
Depending on substance and medical history, clinicians may use protocol-based symptom management, short-term supportive medications, and — when appropriate — transition planning into medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioids or alcohol. Only a licensed medical team decides what is safe for you.
If you take prescription medications already, bring a complete list. Do not stop high-risk medications on your own before assessment.

Cost & payment
What does detox cost with insurance?
Detox is often billed daily or as a short bundled stay. Industry planning ranges commonly fall roughly $300–$1,200 per day depending on medical intensity and included services. Insurance may cover medically necessary detox subject to network status, authorization, deductible, and coinsurance.
Planning range (industry): Often $300–$1,200 per day before insurance; contracted rates and out-of-pocket maximums change the member share dramatically.
Your actual out-of-pocket cost depends on network status, deductible remaining, coinsurance, authorization, and the clinically appropriate length of care. Free benefits verification explains known plan terms before you decide.
Ask admissions whether detox is coordinated onsite or through a partner pathway, and always verify benefits before relying on an estimate.
