Intensive Outpatient Program for Mental Health

What is IOP for Mental Health?

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for mental health goes the extra mile to not only treat our patients suffering from mental health issues, but also help them lead more productive and meaningful lives.

Although IOP is mainly used for addiction and substance abuse issues, it has also been proven to be effective in treating mental health disorders, using structured treatment plans so that patients can get the benefits of an outpatient program while also receiving the support necessary for their treatment.

The goal of IOP at New Hope Health is to produce the best chances for growth as you or your loved one learn how to thrive off of these tools. We pride ourselves on helping our clients make progress not just while they are receiving treatment at our facility, but to provide them with life skills to manage their mental illnesses even after they leave the program.

Who can Benefit from a Mental Health IOP?

Intensive Outpatient Programs may not be right for every patient. Some patients may require residential programs for treating more severe mental health disorders, while others may only need intermittent outpatient support.

Here are some factors to consider:

  • Do you need a higher level of medical supervision than a typical outpatient?
  • Do you need assistance while transitioning out of an inpatient program?
  • Do you need help in building coping skills before you go out into the real world?
  • Do you have support at home while you are transitioning?
  • Do you feel motivated to continue therapy and build life skills?
  • Do you need a more flexible scheduling option than an inpatient program?
  • Do you have other obligations and responsibilities while receiving treatment?
  • Do you need an affordable treatment option while still needing supervision?

While each patient’s requirements are unique, a combination of these factors can help decide whether an IOP program is right for treating your mental health disorders.

IOP Services for Mental Health

IOP provides various services to help you or your loved one thrive. Objectives are set between you and your therapist that focus on recovery skills. Therapy sessions occur throughout the week with progress reports sent to your sponsor and/or family member. Group therapy is included in select groups, usually, once a week, where clients learn from each other’s experiences creating an environment of empathy and support.

Some of our IOP services include:

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy includes psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapies to help uncover and process a patient’s history, past events or other influences in their life that are impacting their current mental condition.

Behavioral Therapy

In this approach, therapists use behavioral treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and several others to help patients change their behavior through techniques for change and proper reinforcements.

Group Therapy

The format of a group therapy can vary depending on the context, but in general it is used to bring together a group of patients with similar requirements in a safe space where they can be emotionally vulnerable while learning to overcome their challenges. A side benefit of this approach is to build peer support networks.

Adventure Therapy

This is an experiential form of psychotherapy to allow patients to participate in adventurous or exciting activities while in a safe space, under supervision. Adventure therapy offers a wide range of benefits such as improved communication skills, enhanced risk assessment, learning to take responsibility, building relationships, and many others.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

This approach of treatment using meditative practices while incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy has been shown to be effective in treating mental health issues such as depression and anxiety and several others.

How Does It Work?

At New Hope Health we work on a 3-step approach to monitor and measure the progress of each individual. This approach allows us to create long term success to clients of all backgrounds and severities.

As part of our 3-step approach, we offer several phases of recovery such as medical assisted treatment (MAT), Inpatient treatment, Partial Hospitalization (PHP) for those who have a good support system, and Outpatient Program (OP) for patients ready to confidently transition back into their daily life.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program is a transition step down but with well-monitored outpatient treatment, including tracking attendance, monitoring progress and recording successes.

Seeking Help

The first step in our IOP treatment is an assessment with one of our staff members. This will include questions about your history of substance abuse and any related mental health disorders. If you require further treatment, you will be referred to our doctors who can provide medication-assisted treatment options if necessary.

After this initial meeting, you will meet with your case manager who will set up your individualized treatment plan based on what was discussed during your assessment. This could include group therapy sessions and individual counseling sessions depending on your needs as determined by our doctors during their initial examination.
