If you are not enrolled at a military hospital or clinic, you will probably be referred to one of Tricare’s authorized network providers. Working with a network provider has benefits such as negotiated rates, not having to file claims or sign documents for copayments. If you choose to go with a non-participating provider, you will need to pay the full amount upfront, and file a claim with Tricare for reimbursement.
Tricare coverage is available worldwide. Within the United States, the East Region is managed by Humana Military and the West Region is managed by Health Net. Anywhere outside of the United States is considered overseas.
Tricare’s mission is to enhance the Department of Defense and national security by providing health support for the full range of military operations while envisioning a health care system that supports the military by fostering, protecting, sustaining and restoring health.
